At LHUMC we are growing together into the disciples we are called to be.
Family Sunday School, where children and their grown-ups gather for a fun learning experience, meets in the Fellowship hall for an engaging lesson that may include a video, story, discussion, craft, game, or other activity. We always include time for both children and adults to fellowship together and build relationships.
Studies have shown that a child’s faith practice is directly related to the faith practices of their parents. We could provide the most knowledgeable and creative teachers and your children could love every minute of Sunday school, but they are more influence by YOU than they are us. So, we invite children and their grown-ups to engage in faith formation together to build a faith that endures.
High School & College Class
ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL
The adult Sunday School class meets in room 111. Experienced teacher and retired pastor Claire Fiedler leads this class in discussions of faith, using study books and videos. Contact the office for more information; Office@lhumc.org
The Christian education program is here to help us understand our calling as disciples. A disciple is a follower or a learner. It refers to someone who takes up the ways of someone else. Applied to Jesus, a disciple is someone who learns from him to live like him. Through study of Scripture, we find understanding and ways to apply the teachings of Jesus to our lives. This understanding and application leads to transformation; which is the goal of a Christian; to become more like Christ.

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
We are all called to tell others about Jesus. Invite friends to church or to join you at a fellowship event. Allow your child to have friend over on Saturday night, and you reach out to the parents by inviting them to join you at church. This is an easy way for families to reach out to other families together.
Our children learn by our example; As a Christian community of faith committed to ministry to and with children, we pledge to conduct all our activities and ministries in such a way that assures the safety and spiritual growth of all children and youth entrusted to us. We will follow reasonable safety measures in the selection and recruitment of workers and we will be responsible in overseeing our programs and events and in training our staff, so that they are able and equipped to minister to children in Jesus’ name. We will report and respond to all suspected incidents of abuse as is required by state law and our moral conscience and we will be prepared to minister to the families of both the abused and the perpetrator or be prepared to make referrals if it exceeds our in-house expertise.
- Two Adult Rule: there will be two adults in each classroom. If this is not possible, there will be a roaming adult who moves amid the classrooms/areas during the program period.
- Each room will have an unobstructed window or the door will be left open at all times.
- Teachers and volunteers will receive training yearly on policy for the protection of children and how to recognize signs of abuse. Anyone who has not completed training will not be allowed to work with children or youth.
- Volunteers and staff will complete a participation covenant statement and application and may be subject to a criminal background check.
Worship, more than anything, should be done together as a family. We want children to worship alongside their parents. Faith is caught more than it is taught. Having children worship alongside their parents and other believers in worship will create in them a rounded faith, based not only on education, but also worship and unity as the Body of Christ. Children learn by doing, and children learn to worship by worshiping.
We know (and expect) that children are going to have trouble sitting still and being quiet. That’s okay! We want children in worship! Worshiping God is a joyous privilege that is not to be reserved for adults. God loves children and so do we – wiggles and all.
